Description

A redefinition of the traditional stone karst house led to the concept of the proto-house as a compact structure made of a single material and with a pitched roof, for contemporary countryside living in the karst region close to Trieste. The design of the compact stone house fits the needs of the young family who live there while following current technological principles and the tradition of small and almost windowless houses of the region. The house is conceived as a monolithic volume with two inserted wooden volumes connected by an interim landing that acts as a playroom. The house-in-a-house concept allows each bedroom to perform as a primarily wooden pitched house, where it literally feels like one is sleeping in his own house and not a room. The project explores the characteristics of the anonymous traditional architecture from which it originates while simultaneously establishing a relationship between a contemporary interpretation and the traditionally conditional domain of synthesis.
