Description
The studio house rises up on the northern edge of Reckingen, a village typical for the region, with tightly-packed, black-stained log buildings. The new building takes up the structural logic of this vernacular architecture, adapting it to the client’s requirements. A raw concrete pedestal burrows into the steep terrain, which was left unchanged and surrounds the house with its typical meadow vegetation. Horizontally layered logs build a habitable room structure of fragrant larchwood. The interior walls and solid wood ceilings were left bare, while the insulated outer walls are whitewashed inside. In conjunction with the uniform built-in wood elements, these materials create tranquil, atmospheric spaces – partly for contemplative use, for private retreat, and partly for more extroverted moments, to indulge in views of the splendid mountain landscape.
