Wil’s nearby city park seems to radiate over the hill sloping down to the south-west and onto the grounds of Sonnenhof. The altitude with the resulting views toward the south and the verdant wooded areas are prime features of the excellent location. The look of the building sets it off from the existing senior centre complex while its colouration harmonises congenially with the surrounding trees. This reference is further emphasised by the verticality of the multiple building edges. The topography of the knoll determined the layout of the staircase, which as the building’s central core affords access to each of the apartments arranged around it in half-storeys. Inside the flats, residents proceed from a spacious entrance area into a diagonally arranged group of spaces, with kitchen, living room, dining room and balcony. The vertically applied ceramic façade tiles in a warm shade of green have a plasticity and sheen that gives the building a delicate appearance.
