Description
The historical castle ensemble in Wildenstein includes a farm with three outbuildings. A new cowshed with exercise pen extends the existing farmyard to meet the latest requirements of organic agricultural production. The new building continues the alignment of the existing buildings whilst lending the ensemble a new equilibrium with its precisely defined spaces. The traditional form of the large saddle roof is inverted here to accommodate the new typological element, the exercise pen, which occupies the central space in the building. The side naves are then developed as a sequence of wooden frames. The longitudinal façades are covered in semi-open timber cladding that echoes the look of traditional rural wooden ornament. The exterior thus mediates between the repetitive internal structure and the surrounding cultural landscape.
