Description
The five-group day-care centre »Schöne Aussicht« in Riedberg is the prototype for a modular system for children’s day-care facilities in Frankfurt am Main, developed on the basis of the winning entry in a competition. It is made up of two-storey buildings of various sizes (depending on the number of groups), to be built at several locations in the city of Frankfurt as timber-frame constructions of passive house standard. The central »village square« is the linchpin for all activities in the house. The outdoors are brought inside through an atrium space of balanced proportions and a skylight. The changing times of day and the seasons thus affect the atmosphere in the interior in a pleasant way. Around the village square eight two-storey »modules« are arranged in a pinwheel, housing the group rooms and utility areas. A steel loggia set before the façade serves as a transitional space between indoors and outdoors, with a broad textile sun shade stretched across in line with the supports. This surrounding loggia meets as if in passing all of the more stringent fire protection requirements for such a facility.
