Werft Tegernsee – Bootshaus mit Schwimmdock
best architects 14
Coming on foot from the town of Tegernsee, one first reaches the roof areas of the wharf buildings with their lookout platforms – a public lakeside trail runs through here, with an unobstructed view of the lake. The new two-storey administration complex, which includes the workshops of the Bavarian Lakes Shipping Company, has two levels that are carefully integrated into the landscape and the slope-side setting. Looking from lake to shore, the new building disappears and one sees only terraced rough pastureland. On the shore side the massive boathouse is then visible, which harbours a floating dock inside. Wood – as a constructive element and in the cladding of the exterior – is the defining element of this building. The structure is made of glued laminated timber frames, with Kerto panels for the ceiling and wall elements. The building shell is narrow natural larchwood weatherboard. The boathouse serves on summer evenings as a boat garage with lowered floating dock, and in the winter months for storing individual ships in dry dock.
