Wohnüberbauung Zelgweg / Baden-Dättwil
best architects 14
Modern urban development in Dättwil consists mainly of self-contained complexes with their own interior life. This project follows the same pattern, but also responds to the specific surrounding conditions. Structurally, it echoes »en miniature« the development pattern neighbouring it to the east. The structures then condense at the north-western edge into an outwardly coherent building volume that in its scale articulates both the entrance to town as well as the transition to the town centre toward the south. Inside, longitudinal paths link Dättwilerstrasse and Zelgweg. Plaza-like widenings offer space for neighbourhood activities. All other outdoor spaces are private and associated with the ground-floor apartments. The ensemble consists of an apartment building with single-floor and maisonette apartments, as well as eleven two-family houses. The latter consist of a ground-floor apartment with a courtyard and, above it, a maisonette with roof terrace.
