Description

The original brief for Villa SK was to convert an existing house to meet the future needs of its inhabitants while keeping to a strict budget. Rather than completely rebuilding the old house, the decision was made to add a contrasting extension that expands the living space into the garden. This measure made it possible to leave the main structure of the house intact and to free up additional space within it for private functions such as bathrooms and children’s rooms. The most public zone of the house – the living room – thus became its central element, surrounded by nature. The first floor of existing building now serves as a retreat for the residents, with the roof of the extension functioning as a terrace. The extension consists of three materials – large glass panels, rough-hewn stones and reddish concrete. The large glass surfaces create an intimate connection between the interior and the changing seasons outdoors.
