Altenmarkt im Pongau | Österreich
A 200-year-old listed stable has been converted into a new spiritual centre for the parish of Embach. An appropriately sublime atmosphere is generated in the new room for prayer and meditation on the first floor by the installation of mud walls and horizontal light slots. The upper floor is defined by a multifunctional room and adjacent room that can be used in many different ways. An internal glass wall provides natural lighting and also a view of the original block house construction with its characteristic incidence of light. With the exception of one newly built opening, architects renounced the use of new materials on the building’s exterior and other architectural interventions.
