Description

The Seefeld district in Zurich was newly created around 1900 with a perimeter block structure. Here the property is located within the neighbourhood preservation zone. The perimeter block along Klausstrasse is not completely closed, a small driveway and walkway at the property corner leads into the courtyard. Detached courtyard houses are being newly reinterpreted in their urban position and incorporated into the perimeter block development. Therefore the gap is being closed and the link made readable through the courtyard. A plastic structure takes the adjoining building heights, and varies the typical local steep roof through diagonally recessed attic floors. Analogous to the attic the ground floor façade slants itself back in a covered entrance area and thus defines it spatially. Offices and studios are arranged on ground floor and basement, the upper floors include 13 apartments. The façade was cast in relief textured and terracotta coloured concrete elements. In colour and depth the result is an analogy to the adjacent brick building from the Art Nouveau period.
