Description

The apartments which were built as athlete housing for the Olympic summer games in 1972 have been used as student housing ever since. 800 of these units are now derelict and cannot be refurbished in an economical way. With our help the student housing association rebuilt this part of the Olympic Village in a contemporary way while preserving the architectural merits of the original. Where there were 800 apartments in 2007, in 2010 there are 1,052 apartments. The new mini-homes are conceived as maisonette type apartments with a luxurious roof terrace for each student. Each of the 1,052 units has its own front door and desoite their small size they offer much sought-after individuality. The new houses are built of prefab concrete with internal insulation made out of foam glass. The main characteristics of the urban structures remain the same. The mini-homes will be accessed by narrow pedestrian streets of 2.3 metres width.
