GATERMANN + SCHOSSIG

Description

The new completed building by the architects GATERMANN + SCHOSSIG in the Rheinauhafen Cologne especially takes effect from the exciting contrast between the non-transparent anodised aluminium panels and the transparent glass panels of the IntegralFacade. The special feature of the aluminium panels which are fabricated in New Zealand, is the graphic structure which is embossed into the panels through a special etching and anodising procedure. According to the time of day, weather and point of view, this structure adds a new appearance to the building – from dark-grey to gold. Facade-integrated flaps naturally ventilate the office areas standard-wise. An efficiently coordinated energy strategy with compound unit activation of the concrete ceilings, centrally controlled daylight-guiding anti-glare lamellae (retro-lamellae) and nocturnal cooling through the flaps, provide for the basic cooling of the building. A flexible floor plan structure permits all types of offices, from the open-plan office to the individual office.
